Welcome to the web home of Wingra Brittanys!
We are located just outside of Burlington, Vermont. We do not maintain a kennel, however, we are Brittany enthusiasts who own a few dogs that are actively shown or field trailed. We offer grooming services and handling for the show ring. If you are interested in learning more about the breed we encourage you to visit the Brittany Breed Information page, which covers the breed standard, the history of the breed and much more! You can also read about the pros and cons of choosing a Brittany on the American Brittany Rescue's page, Choosing a Brittany. Welcome to our website, we invite you to look around for photos of our current and past dogs!
History of Wingra Brittanys
Ch. Almaden's Under Lock and Key
My first Brittany came from the late Sue and Fran Rowe, of Robark Brittanys in Connecticut. Ch. Robark's Autumn Nutmeg, CGC, CD came to our family as an 8 week old puppy in the fall of 1990. "Meggie" was my first show dog. She and I competed in conformation, juniors and my mom trained and competed with her in obedience. Meggie was also our family's first hunting dog and although she never ran in field trials or hunt tests, she hunted grouse for many years with my father in Vermont and New Hampshire.
In 1993 Gail Schmieder, DVM entrusted me with "Seamus", who became Ch. Loki's I'm Just A Kid. Seamus was a wonderful dog with nice conformation and an outstanding, loving temperament. Seamus never had much opportunity to do field work, but he was a natural bird dog with a lot of stamina. As a special Seamus was a multiple Best of Breed winner and retired after winning an Award of Merit at the Nationals in 1997. After Seamus retired I had an opportunity to show several other nice Brittanys in juniors and the breed ring.
After competing extensively with Meg, Seamus and others in conformation and juniors I took a break from dog shows to attend college in Wisconsin. When I decided to get back into dogs, Margie Sauer sent me Buzz (Ch. Rocklan-Jordean Wake Up Call). Buzz was a wonderful companion and got me thinking about returning to dog shows.
In 2006 I met my husband Noah, who is a lifelong hunter and dog lover. When we decided to get another dog we set out to find one that would love to hunt upland game. With hopes of a true dual quality puppy, we bought Bogey (Ch. Schonhund Winning Wager) from breeder Ann Farinas-Schanzenbacher. Bogey came to us through Jessica Carlson, of Alar Brittanys, who co-owned the stud dog and put me in touch with Ann. From the very beginning Bogey was different than the dogs of my childhood. A driven, fast, bird crazy dog, Bogey has given us an opportunity to try out the world of field trials.

We were so happy with Bogey that we went back to Jessica in search of our next pup. In 2012, I added Ch. Almaden's Under Lock and Key to the family. Oudi was bred by Sherry Larsen, her late husband Bud and her granddaughter Sara Hellett. Jessica was the 'matchmaker' between Oudi's parents and she also helped us select our pup from Oudi's litter. Oudi has a knack for escaping and is named for the famous Harry HOUDIni.
Although Brittanys are my first love, I've also shown most breeds in the sporting and working groups and have shown at least one breed from all 7 groups. While actively showing in juniors I apprenticed under professional handlers between 1994 and 1997 and was a nationally ranked Brittany junior (which isn't hard with a small breed like Brittanys!) from 1994‐1997. And today... |
